Coping with Depression Part 8

This is the last post in my series, Coping with Depression. Let me say one more time I understand that dealing with depression in an abusive relationship is extremely difficult, but I do believe it is not impossible. We have looked at six ”tips” to help overcome depression:
Tip 1: Reach out and stay connected.
Tip 2: Do things that make you feel good.
Tip 3: Get moving.
Tip 4: Eat a healthy, depression-fighting diet.
Tip 5: Get a daily dose of sunlight.
Tip 6: Challenge negative thinking.

If you have taken self-help steps and made positive lifestyle changes and still find your depression getting worse, seek professional help. Needing additional help does not mean you are weak. Sometimes the negative thinking in depression can make you feel like you’re a lost cause, but depression can be treated and you can feel better!
Do not forget about these self-help tips, though. Even if you are receiving professional help, these tips can be a part of your treatment plan, speeding your recovery and preventing depression from returning.
